ANZ
ANZ recognises that great companies are about great people, and as part of our vision to become the Employer of Choice in Australia, we are committed to attracting and retaining the very best talent.
That means people who are not afraid to make bold decisions. Creative thinkers who can really help us embrace diversity, meet the challenge of change head-on and, most importantly, ensure we continue on our journey towards our aspired position of the Bank with the Human Face.
Traditionally, undergraduates studying Technology related disciplines haven’t given much through to a career in IT with a bank, but we’re here to tell you a little about what you’ll miss out on if you don’t. We aspire to create a unique climate of inspiration, leadership, values and opportunities and have a number of such for technology undergraduates and graduates outlined below.
But firstly, What is Technology at ANZ?

You must be busy - how do you manage to do all of that?
With 3000 talented employees based predominately in Australia, New Zealand & India, & a sprinkling through our ever-growing Asia/Pacific region. This includes some 28 graduates and 16 Industry Based Learning students, which we expect to grow in 2009.
What do all these people do?
They work in Technology roles, supporting the people and systems of 5 main areas:

Meet Roshini Balasubramanian. Prior to her permanent role as Online Applications Release Manager in Retail & Channels Banking, the Technology graduate program took her to:

- • Time to Market Analyst (Personal Technology): Involved working with the various delivery teams to measure their “time to market” (time taken to deliver their technology service to the business) and devise methods to reduce it.
• Business Analyst (Retail Banking eCommerce): Here work focussed on the requirements analysis for a number of exciting projects for maintaining the website (anz.com), building new pages, online calculators, forms etc.
“I really enjoyed meeting new people and the social aspects of my life as a graduate. Of course, there are always challenges – steep learning curves, juggling multiple tasks, deadlines etc but that’s all part of learning. On the whole, my graduate journey has been a fantastic and rewarding experience that has definitely helped me kick-start my career!”

What does a typical day look like for an ANZ IBL student?
Meet Danielle, a 2007 IBL student in Infrastructure Risk & Security Testing, within Security Compliance - Global Information Security (GIS):
“My team looked after the approval & review of account applications for generic mailbox, user ids & service ids requests from across ANZ. We assess the need, intended use & adherence to policy before authorising the creation. Consequently this task required me to engage many staff from different areas of ANZ on a daily basis, along with assisting on a variety of tasks which required programming skills.
Most days required me to conduct a risk assessment on an issue affecting the business, generally arising from an audit, new technology or ad hoc request. These assessments required liaising with requestors to research the issue, identify potential scenarios, determine the risks involved & suggest possible treatments to assist in formulating action plans.
I was also involved with a number of teams on a daily basis, including the GIS Fun team, Recognition team, & Greening team.
To aid my development, I was offered numerous opportunities to undertake various training courses, & given the chance to shadow another team to experience other roles within GIS.
The opportunity to learn and develop was always constant throughout my IBL year.”
On completion of her IBL year, Danielle was offered a part time role in Global Information Security as a Technical Security Analyst as she completes her degree, and an early placement into the 2009 Graduate Program.
So what type of graduate are ANZ looking for?
ANZ values difference & diversity, so there is no mould to fit to suit our program. Given the days of lonely, low-contact technical roles are gone (though we still have a few of those if that tickles your fancy!), we need people who understand business needs, can manage relationships, & deliver results.
The socially inept programmer so often depicted in pop culture is a myth at ANZ. Our people are not afraid to make bold decisions, think outside the square & meet challenges head on.
Be challenged. Be different. Be you with the ANZ Technology Graduate Program.
